I Hate Wire
ARGH!!! I love those wirewrap rings that are growing ever more popular, so tonight I figured I'd make some. The first one came out bee-yoo-tee-fully. All the others?
Crap. :(
I don't get it. They look so deceptively simple. Everything I looked up when I proved to be utterly ring remedial looks simple. I am doing it the right way, but for some reason, I just can't do it correctly to save my life. Copper is fairly easy, but silver? Silver sucks. And you know why? Because it's an expensive learning medium. That's why.

Yeah, I went a little nutty. Plus, ol' Anon jumped into the faustite/turquoise debate, and that turned into a huge mystery I am still trying to unravel. I've determined the stone has a hardness between 5 and 5.5, but not much else! I've spent the last 2 days combing the web looking for green rocks. It's been...interesting.

Well, let me add to the frenzy then. I'd post the pic over on the http://www.jewelrymaking.about.com forum (they have a special "what's this stone" section) and ask. There are several REALLY knowledgeable rockhounds over there including the guy who owns Rings N Things. I've never seen faustite in person either, but I voted for it because the stones (as pictured) don't look anything like turquoise to me...even yellow or green turquoise from China(or not). I HAVE seen apple green "so-called" turquoise. It is "chalk" that is dyed. The chalk can be made up of either real turquoise dust combined w/ epoxy or whatever or it can be a man-made chalk that is then dyed. Okay, that's my contribution to the fray (which I would've put in an e-mail 'ceptin' you still owe me a reply from the LAST round LOL)

I know, and I feel badly I haven't gotten back to you with the reply yet! I'll do that and email you a better photo of the stone that I made up for the turquoise group. I soaked the thing in boiling water and oxyclean twice the other night to try and remove the dye, so I have a picture of a stone with less color in the "white" areas, now. There is apple-green turquoise that isn't dyed China chalk. It's really beautiful. Here's a great link you can check out...I'll send it to you in mail too, if'n I remember! Here: http://www.skystonetrading.com/orviljack.asp That's a great turquoise site. They have beautiful pictures. There are other colors of green turquoise, too, etc. Enjoy. :)
